H omecoming: NYC Vets Return is the result of a collaboration between 13 students of the City University of New York’s Graduate School of Journalism. Armed with video and still cameras, audio recorders and loads of statistics, the students fanned across the city, locating veterans from all five boroughs who served in Iraq, Afghanistan or both.
Although New York City as a whole has seen a smaller proportion of its citizens serve overseas than other parts of the country, its veterans offer compelling stories of what it is like to return home to America’s largest city. From finding a job to how their service has affected their families, New York’s veterans paint a diverse picture of the experience of coming home.
Homecoming is a project of the NYCity News Service.
